The Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino has defined a system that provides traceability of all Montalcino denomination of origin wines.

This system enables consumers to check a check a series of data: the producer, the lot that corresponds to the number, the analytical data of the wine and it even enables the access to the producer’s internet web site.

For both Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino, after having chosen the bottle size (e.g. 0.75 for the bordelaise), one has to fill in the alphanumeric code (first the three letters and then the eight numbers) printed on the State tag. This system has been operative starting with the 1999 Brunello di Montalcino vintage and with the 2005 Rosso di Montalcino vintage.
